Solar-powered water pumping project was officially launched in Dhusamareb, the capital city of Galmudug State. This initiative aimed to tackle the pressing water scarcity issue in the region, especially for vulnerable communities in rural and drought-affected areas who lacked access to clean and reliable water sources.
The project was funded and implemented by SOMNUUR (Somali Noor Foundation) in partnership with local authorities. It focused on using renewable solar energy to power water pumps, offering a sustainable, affordable, and eco-friendly alternative to fuel-powered systems or inconsistent electricity sources.
This successful project has significantly improved access to clean water for hundreds of families, enhanced hygiene and public health, and reduced the burden on women and children who previously walked long distances to fetch water. The community’s positive response and the project's tangible impact have encouraged further plans to expand similar systems across Galmudug.
